Inspections
Why get my sheep inspected?
You should get your Whitefaced Woodland sheep inspected to ensure they meet the breed standard, allowing them to be registered with the Whitefaced Woodland Sheep Society. Registration not only helps maintain and improve the quality of the breed but also ensures your sheep are recognised as pure and suitable for breeding. By registering, your sheep will be included in the Hill Register, an affordable way to preserve their pedigree for future generations. Additionally, through collaboration with the Rare Breeds Survival Trust (RBST), sheep with three generations of fully registered ancestors can be added to the Combined Flock Book, which further contributes to the protection and promotion of Whitefaced Woodland sheep.
How do I get my sheep inspected and registered?
Sheep become eligible for inspection and registration from 12 months of age, subject to a small fee:
Rams: £10.00 each
Ewes: £2.00 each
Replacement certificates: £1.00 each
To request an inspection, simply complete the form below.
Once submitted, we will arrange for two inspectors to visit and assess your sheep. Both inspectors must agree that each sheep meets the breed standard and is suitable for registration. Those that pass will be added to the Hill Register, and, if eligible, to the Combined Flock Book by the Registrar.
